Jade Harmony 74" vs B Mat Strong 6mm: Which One Should You Buy?

Both of these hold your hands from the first class. Neither asks for a break-in, neither needs a towel in a normal room, and both come up constantly when people describe finally getting off a mat they were sliding on. If you are here because you want grip, you can have it either way.

What separates them is shape and what happens to sweat. The Harmony 74 is 74″ × 24″ and open-cell, so moisture goes into the rubber. The B Mat Strong is 71″ × 26″ and dense, so moisture stays on top. There is $34.05 between them.

Jade has been the grip benchmark for two decades and the Harmony earns it. Open-cell rubber pulls moisture off your palms as you warm up, which is why traction often improves through a class rather than fading.

GearLab tested the 4 mm B Mat, which uses the same rubber compound as the Strong, rated it 9 out of 10 for grip and called it among the grippiest mats it had used in either wet or dry conditions. The same review noted the surface can be too grippy for styles built on sliding transitions, with testers stepping between poses rather than gliding. If you practice fast vinyasa or Ashtanga, that is a small point for the Jade.

The Harmony absorbs. That is the source of its traction and it is also a maintenance commitment: the sweat is now inside your mat, so it wants cleaning more often, and heavy sweaty use shortens its life. Jade’s one-year warranty specifically excludes harsh cleaners, so mild soap and a damp cloth is the whole routine.

The B Mat does not absorb. Sweat pools on the surface and the rubber grips through it, which sounds worse than it is; you towel the top between rounds and nothing ends up living in the mat. Heavy sweaters usually end up preferring this arrangement, because cleaning never goes beyond a wipe.

The Harmony 74 is three inches longer. The B Mat Strong is two inches wider, at 26″ against 24″, and that is the more noticeable of the two in practice. Twenty-four inches is the older standard, and in a wide-legged forward fold or a low lunge with a wide hand, the floor shows up more often than you would like.

If you want both dimensions from Jade, the Harmony XW is 80″ × 28″ at $149.95. If you want the b, halfmoon rubber in a thinner, lighter build, the B Mat Everyday at 4 mm keeps the same width for $118.

The B Mat Strong is 6 mm and the Harmony is 4.8. That extra 1.2 mm is real cushion for knees and elbows without the wobble you get from a thick foam mat, because dense rubber barely compresses under a foot. Thickness only destabilises you when the material squishes, which is a foam problem.

You do lose a little floor feedback. Some people who practice a lot of standing balances genuinely prefer the Harmony’s thinner build for exactly that reason, and there is no wrong answer; it is a preference, not a defect.

The Harmony is natural rubber made in Jade’s own USA facility, and Jade plants a tree for every mat sold, now past two million. There is no third-party certification on it.

The B Mat is made in Spain from mostly natural rubber with some synthetic content, and it carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which certifies what is not in the mat rather than how it performs. Which of those you value is genuinely personal: domestic manufacture and a reforestation program, or a lab certificate and European production.

Both contain latex, so neither is an option with a genuine allergy. Jade is explicit that its mats are 99% latex free rather than latex free, and b, halfmoon’s natural rubber content means the same thing applies.

The Harmony 74 is about 5.3 pounds and the B Mat Strong about 5, so weight should not decide this. Neither is a travel mat and both are fine for a walk to the studio.

Sun is the thing that actually kills both. Rubber degrades in ultraviolet light, so a mat left in a car rear window or on a balcony will be noticeably worse in a season. Store either one rolled, in the shade, dry. Both carry one year of coverage.

Per year of ownership these are close. Both should give you several years with sensible care, both are backed for one, and the $34 difference is small enough that size should decide this rather than money.

Get the Harmony 74 if you want the extra length, if you like the idea of a USA-made mat with a tree behind it, and if you are willing to clean a mat that soaks up what you leave on it. It is the tackier surface on a dry floor and it is cheaper.

Get the B Mat Strong if you want the wider, thicker mat, if you sweat heavily and would rather wipe a surface than wash a sponge, or if the OEKO-TEX certificate matters to you. It costs a little more and gives you more mat in the two dimensions most people actually notice.
