Jade Harmony 74" vs B Mat Everyday 4mm: Which One Should You Buy?

The Harmony 74 is $109.95 and the B Mat Everyday is $118, so whatever decides this, it will not be money. Both are natural rubber, both hold your hands from the first unroll, and neither asks for a break-in.

What actually separates them is the footprint and what happens to your sweat. The Jade is 74″ × 24″ and open-cell, so moisture goes into the rubber. The b, halfmoon is 71″ × 26″ and dense, so moisture stays on top.

Jade has been the reference point for traction for about twenty years, and the Harmony earns it. Open-cell rubber pulls moisture off your palms as you warm up, so grip often improves through a class rather than fading.

GearLab tested the 4 mm B Mat, rated it 9 out of 10 for grip and called it among the grippiest mats it had used in either wet or dry conditions. Both hold. The one nuance worth knowing is that the B Mat surface can be too grippy for styles built on sliding transitions, with GearLab’s testers stepping between poses rather than gliding. If you practice fast vinyasa, that is a small point for the Jade.

The Harmony absorbs. That is where the traction comes from and it is a maintenance commitment: the sweat is now inside your mat, it wants cleaning more often, and heavy sweaty use shortens its life. Jade’s one-year warranty excludes harsh cleaners, so mild soap and a damp cloth is the whole routine.

The B Mat does not absorb. Sweat pools on the dense rubber and the rubber grips through it, so you towel the top between rounds and nothing ends up living in the mat. For heavy sweaters that is the tidier arrangement, and cleaning never goes past a wipe.

The Harmony 74 is three inches longer. The B Mat is two inches wider, and in practice that is the more noticeable of the two. Twenty-four inches is the older standard, and in a wide-legged forward fold or a side plank a hand finds the floorboards more often than you would like.

Jade’s own answer to both is to go bigger: the Harmony XW is 80″ × 28″ at $149.95. If you want more rubber under you from b, halfmoon, the 6 mm B Mat Strong is the same surface and width at $144.

The Harmony is 4.8 mm and the B Mat 4, which is close enough that most people will not feel the difference. Neither is a cushioning mat; both are firm dense rubber that keeps you stable rather than plush.

On tile, a long kneeling sequence will find you on either one, and a folded blanket is the usual answer. If your knees are the actual problem you are solving, both of these are the wrong shelf and a 6 mm rubber mat or a thicker foam one is the right one.

The Harmony 74 is roughly 5.3 pounds and the B Mat Everyday about 4.1. GearLab described the B Mat as portable by the standards of mats it beats on grip, noting it rolls to about 3.5 to 4 inches across and runs two to four pounds lighter than most of the mats it outperforms.

A pound is not dramatic and neither of these is a travel mat. Treat it as a tiebreaker rather than a reason, unless you carry a mat a long way several times a week.

Jade makes the Harmony in its own USA facility and plants a tree for every mat sold, a program now past two million. There is no third-party certification on it; the material and the manufacturing are the credential.

The B Mat is made in Spain from mostly natural rubber with some synthetic content, and carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which speaks to what is not in the mat rather than how it performs. Both contain latex, so neither works with a genuine allergy, and Jade is explicit that its mats are 99% latex free rather than latex free.

Jade sells two mats called Harmony and they are not the same product. The Harmony 2.0 is newer, made in Spain, and carries the FSC and OEKO-TEX certifications plus the recent OutdoorGearLab award for eco-friendly dry grip.

The mat here is the older one, the Harmony that Jade has built in the USA for two decades, in its 74″ cut at $109.95. A score earned by the 2.0 does not transfer to it, and the two differ in origin, certifications and price.

Both should give you several years with sensible care and both are backed for one. With eight dollars in it, decide on size and on how much you sweat, and ignore the price entirely.

Get the Harmony 74 if you are tall enough to want the extra length, if you like the idea of a USA-made mat with a tree behind it, and if you are willing to clean a mat that soaks up what you leave on it. It is the tackier surface on a dry floor.

Get the B Mat Everyday if you want the wider mat, if you sweat heavily and would rather wipe a surface than wash a sponge, or if the OEKO-TEX certificate matters to you. It is also the lighter of the two by about a pound.
